About calorie calculations
What is BMR?
Basal Metabolic Rate is the number of calories your body burns at complete rest just to keep you alive — breathing, circulation, cell production. This calculator uses the Mifflin-St Jeor equation, the most accurate formula available.
What is TDEE?
Total Daily Energy Expenditure is your BMR multiplied by your activity level. It's how many calories you burn in a typical day including exercise and movement.
How many calories to lose weight?
A deficit of 500 calories per day leads to roughly 1 pound of fat loss per week (3,500 calories = 1 lb). A 1,000 calorie deficit = ~2 lbs/week. Going below 1,200 calories is generally not recommended.
How accurate is this calculator?
The Mifflin-St Jeor formula is accurate within 10% for most people. Factors like muscle mass, hormones, and metabolism can affect your actual needs — use this as a starting point and adjust based on results.
